On our Inshore bay fishing charters the bite has been good. We are still finding an occasional trout but not really focusing on trout fishing unless by request with water temps getting hot, they are starting to move to deeper water and towards the rivers and there is plenty of action elsewhere. The grass flats are holding good amounts of bait bringing a variety of fish to the flats including skipjacks, spanish mackerel, bluefish, and some trout. We have had a good bite fishing structure like docks and the bridges where we are catching redfish and the mangrove snapper bite is heating up. If you're wanting to target some big bull reds we have been doing well on the outgoing tide soaking big baits around the bridges, as well as spot casting them on calm days on the flats and down the beach. With all the bait fish being plentiful the skipjacks, spanish mackerel, and bluefish have been providing plenty of action.
Out in the gulf on our near shore gulf charters we are targeting spanish mackerel, king mackerels, and bonitas while trolling. The shark fishing has been red hot the past week with plenty of blacktips and spinners sharks on light tackle on the beaches as well as a variety of bigger sharks on the reefs. We are going into the last few days of snapper fishing and the inshore bite has gotten tougher and we are having to go to lighter tackle to get some bites. While bottom fishing we are also targeting trigger fish, vermilion snappers "aka mingos snappers" and white snappers. The red snappers are open season until July 20th. As for amberjack and triggerfish they both went out of season but we are catching them for great catch and release photos.
Dont forget this is the prime time for tarpon fishing. These fish are a catch of a lifetime and people travel all over the world targeting these amazing creatures. Most average around 80-100 pounds and they are still able to jump completely out the water up to 5-6'. Just remember targeting a tarpon is like targeting a world class trophy buck there is always that chance of being completely skunked when targeting them.
