Reel Lucky 2 Cobia Tower Addition

1/13/2017

After a long season of breaking in Reel Lucky 2, winter is upon us.  We are taking full advantage of this break and getting her all shined up and improved for next season.  We dropped her off to Ugly Duckling Marine today to let Brad do his magic with the welder.  This coming season Reel Lucky 2 will be sporting a brand new cobia tower with complete controls allowing us to take charters to the next level.  The tower will allow us to spot fish for cobias in the spring as they migrate through our area, tarpons in the summer, and redfish roaming the beaches in the fall and winter months.  Check back in a few weeks to see the transformation.

November is here and the 2019 Destin Fishing Rodeo is in the history books.  We had another great year for the rodeo winning 1st and 2nd place redfish, 1st place sheepshead, 2nd place flounder, 1st and 2nd place black snapper, 2nd place barracuda, 1st place grouper and 2nd place king mackerel.  The award ceremony was a great time and I was awarded the Captain of the year award for our division for the 3rd year in a row.  Thank you to all our customers that fished with us this year in the rodeo.

Fall is here and the with the cooler weather the water temps have been dropping.  This has made fishing starting to get on the fall fishing pattern finally after being behind schedule with the record breaking temps in september and october.  Here lately on our inshore bay fishing charters we have been catching a variety of species.  The redfish bite continues to be good as these fish are a year around fishery for the Destin, Florida area.  We are starting to sight fish them along the beaches as they move out to the gulf to migrate.  The mangrove snappers are still around but we expect them to move out in the weeks coming with the water temps dropping.  We have started catching flounders in the bay as well as inshore wrecks in the gulf.    We are also starting to see speckled trout and black drum in the mix in the back bay.   The sheephead are here in good numbers but we probably wont see them biting much until the water cools down and pushes the pinfish to deeper water.

On our inshore gulf fishing charters the bite has been good as well.  While bottom fishing we are catching a mix bag of  snappers including white snapper, mingo snapper, and mangrove snappers along with triggerfish and redsnappers.  Over the next couple months one of our main targeted species in the gulf will be flounder as they stack up on nearshore wrecks this time of the year.   The trolling  bite has been off and on from day to day catching king mackerel, spanish mackerel, and bonitas.  This is the time of the year we will start seeing some blackfin tunas show up with the cooler water.

Triggerfish and Red snappers continue to be out of season for the remainder of the year but still make for great time to perform "CPR" (Catch, Photograph, and Release)

Our captains fish year around and are always ready to go fishing.  Give us a call to get out on the water this fall and winter.
